January 6, 2016 – Stained glass is familiar artwork to anyone who has visited a historic city or religious structure, but the beauty of these one-of-a-kind pieces is not lost on visitors. For most, the art of glass fusing is a mystery, for some it’s just a hobby and for others it’s their fulltime profession. Cindi Kelly, a native of Watkins Glen, NY and owner of Rainbow Glass Shoppe, has managed to make this mystery hobby into her profession.
A glass artist for the majority of her life, Cindi graduated in 2012 with her art degree before relocating to Florida from her home town. Since acquiring the 20 year old Cocoa business in August, she has begun taking steps to increase interest in this classic art form. While Rainbow Glass Shoppe remains a place for seasoned glass workers to purchase materials and work on glass projects, Cindi is opening her studio to those who are curious to learn more. Beginning in 2016, she plans to offer classes in glass fusing and casting for groups of all ages; future classes will also include bead making.
The abstract nature of stained glass and glass fusing makes this activity ideal for creative types of all levels, as the most difficult part of the process is choosing the glass for your project. According to Cindi, there is no bad design because the glass speaks for itself.
